VDI standard

VDI standard

VDI standard

(OP)
Hi,
I use to ISO standard to assess severaty of vibration on equipment. But Flowserve pumps manual refer to VDI 2056. I have never seen this standard. They set vibration alarm on 9 mm/sec and trip level on 12 mm/sec. These values seem very high to me. In steady operation bearing vibration on these pumps is about 2 mm/sec.
Can anybody help me get VDI vibration severety chart?

RE: VDI standard

Your cited vibration alarm and trip limits of 9 and 12 mm/sec. are not unusually high since, typically, 0.3 and 0.6 in./sec. (7.62 and 15.24 mm/sec) are often mentioned as recommended zero to peak machinery vibration alarm and trip limits in the literature. However, more stringent limits may be prescribed for high precision or critical-use machinery. The VDI limits in dgallagher's post are displacement (zero to peak) rather than velocity limits and need to be converted to velocity limits by appropriate formula. In English units such an equation is V=(f/19100)*D where V is velocity (in/sec,peak),f is frequency (cycles/min.), D is displacement (mils,peak-peak).
