WRC 107 and internal pressure

WRC 107 and internal pressure

WRC 107 and internal pressure

(OP)
I calculated sresses in a cylindrical shell due to nozzle loads according WRC 107.
Can I add the membrane stress from internal pressure to these streses and is the allowable primary membrane Stress 1,5 . S and the allowable combined stress 3. S ( S = basic tensile allowable)

Thanks in advance
rudolf

RE: WRC 107 and internal pressure

You need to add the hoop pressure stress.  The allowable local primary membrane stress is 1.5S.  The meridional extent of the stress field must be limited (see Section VIII, Div 2, Appendix 4) to classify the stress as local primary membrane.  The 3S limit applies to the membrane plus through wall bending stresses at the junction.
