Windows 2003 server & PDMworks
Windows 2003 server & PDMworks
(OP)
Does anyone out there have PDMworks vault installed on a Windows 2003 server?
We upgrade our server to 2003 this weekend and we are now having problems re-installing PDMworks. We can install from the CD at SP0 but when we try to upgrade to SP4.1 it gives us an error:
"Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
If anybody out there has had this problem and has found a solution, could you please pass it on.
Thank you

1) When you do the upgrade, are you logged in as a user who can access the vault files? If not, it won't work.
2) Have you tried running the installation program from the hard disk instead of the CD? (You can download these files from the SolidWorks support website.)
I hope this helps...

RE: Windows 2003 server & PDMworks
The solution is to trick Windows & the Windows Installer into thinking the application is not installed.
To do this, you will need to delete a registry key as well as folder.
Using regedit, browse to the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\INSTALLER\PRODUCTS.
Search this key for a subfolder that contains the information for the installation you are trying to delete: (In the case of PDMWorks 2004 it is 7C8B74D8F508EB14582D9CFAA89CFD91)
In this folder, you will several subkeys. More specifically, there is a key called "Transforms" (either that or ProductIcon). It's value designates a protected system folder where Windows Installer stores some pertinent information about the installation package.
Make a note of this folder name.
In the case of PDMWorks 2004 it is C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{8D47B8C7-805F-41BE-85D2-C9AF8AC9DF19}\1033.MST
To fix things:
DELETE the registry subfolder (7C8B74D8F508EB14582D9CFAA89CFD91)
Exit the Registry editor
Using Windows Explorer, enter the "C:\Windows\Installer" on the address line
Find the WI folder ( C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{8D47B8C7-805F-41BE-85D2-C9AF8AC9DF19} ) and DELETE it
Now Windows/Windows Installer will act as if it's not installed on your system. All you need to do is simply run the installation program.
Hopefully, this helps.
