How to tighten non-high-strength bolts

How to tighten non-high-strength bolts

(OP)
We are currely developing  the speicfications provide
requirements for tightening these non-high-strength bolts,
such as A307 bolts or stainless steel bolts or A325 bolts in the general applications.

Any comments, and recommendations are highly valued and appreicated.

RE: How to tighten non-high-strength bolts

My recommendation is order to refer to the specifications standing for these bolts and their installation, there's no need to precise on what already precised. The Gaylord, Gaylord and Stallmeyer text is also good reference respect bolts.

RE: How to tighten non-high-strength bolts

GGS book states that are tightened by using long handled manual wrenches, so tension is unpredictable and small, Pins, jam nuts, locknuts are used when loosening is a considerationn. In any case the induced tension is small, and if significant fatigue or vibratory stressing is to be present, pretensioned bolts are mandatory.

For those in shear, the more important specification is clearly stating if threads must be excluded or need not from the shear surface, and enforcing it in the field.

LDuan,
I would assume that you still want to torque
to 70 percent of yield.  I have an excell
spread sheet made from data from a Lamson
and Sessions Chart.  Free for the asking.
