British/European Hose Thread

British/European Hose Thread

British/European Hose Thread

(OP)
Hi All,

Our company is looking at selling product in the UK and on the continent.  One of the issues is with one of our watering products.  The attachment is a standard US GHT (Garden Hose Thread).  The one question we have is what is the typical garden hose specification in the UK and Europe?

Regards,

Rich....

RE: British/European Hose Thread

The garden hose in most common use is plastic with a special plastic gripper and push fit bayonet type connector selling for pennies. Threaded connectors are not in common use. We have hose union bib taps which have thresed connectors. I would guess either metric or BSP would be common.

Also watch out for the water regulations. All external taps have to have double check valves fitted for backflow protection.

RE: British/European Hose Thread

The typical hose union tap in the UK is has an outlet connection of either 1/2 inch BSP male or 3/4 inch BSP male.  These male threads are parallel, requiring a sealing washer on the hose connection.  Many people leave a hose connector permanently attached, so they just have to push on the hose.

Regards,

Brian
