Weld wire selection references
Weld wire selection references
(OP)
We have a new QC manager. The previous manager took his personal collection of welding literature. We are looking for weld wire selection recommendation literature. Primarily for various metals (CS, SS, inconel, hastelloy, ASME P3,4,5, etc) in GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and SAW processes.
Is this literature usually obtained from the individual wire vendors or are there recommended books or publications? I have also heard of quick reference charts or wheels for this purpose, where can these be obtained?

The company catalogs often have selection charts in them, and they'll usually send them to you for free.

If it moves, train it...if it doesn't move, calibrate it...if it isn't written down, it never happened!

Good recommendations for the AWS books these are pretty much industry standard for filler metal comparisons. I suspect from your enquiry that you are after advice on the correct consumables to use for various applications. Here are a few links that I have accessed and find to be very useful:
Stainless steel welding:
http://www.ssina.com/publications/welding.html
http://www.bssa.org.uk/index.htm
Euro Inox publication 'Welding of Stainless Steels' tabulates suggested consumables for welding a range of stainless steel base or parent grades. This publication can be viewed or down loaded in pdf format from the Euro Inox web site, www.euro-inox.org by selecting the Materials and Applications sub menu.
Inconel series:

Various consumables:

Hadfacing alloys:

Hope these are useful!

The AWS book is on sale thru the end of Aug for half price (plus an additonal 25% off for AWS members) so a good time to purchase, normally around 160.00 can be obtained for 60.00.
Will forward all the useful links as well.

I just followed you link on the right and then clicked on order now. There is a marketing code you have to reference. Your speculation may be accurate concerning the new edition, however can't pass up the price to get a library started.
