Korndorfer reduced voltage motor starting method

Korndorfer reduced voltage motor starting method

(OP)
I am searching information on the person who developed the reduced voltage starting method
also called Korndörfer motor starting circuit
or also called autotransformer closed circuit motor starting transition control circuit.
I guess it was Mr Korndorfer.
His name could be also Mr Korndörfer.
What is his nationality
When was he born
When did he introduce the system
Did he apply for patent

It would be really great if someone could help
Thanks in advance

RE: Korndorfer reduced voltage motor starting method

Probably one of those tidbits of information lost to the world now. Korndorfer is a big family name group in the Milwaukee Wisconsin area and it may be that an engineer by that name worked for Allen-Bradley, Squade-D, Culter-Hammer or Louis Allis, all of which were located there. There is also mention of a Korndorfer working on radio transmission equipment for Braun-Siemens-Halske in Germany (later Siemens) around the turn of the century, but he was in the radio group that became Telefunken. In the early days of electrical equipment however, engineers often worked in several disciplines. In addition, many early transformer designs were experimented with for radio transmission so it has a possible connection there.

This company claims to have developed it in 1973, but that may just be a quirk of translation from their native language. http://www.lifelineindia.net/

Good luck and post info if you find it. I'm a sucker for useless trivia.

dear jaref, you are right,
we find a Mr Korndorfer beeing an electrical engineer mentioned in a report about US navy comunication systems going back to some tests made in year 1902 - 1903. That Mr Korndorfer was employed that time at Braun-Siemens-Halske company. www.earlyradiohistory.us/1963hw05.htm

Once I found a page in an US patent libery stating a Mr Korndorfer who applied in about the 1930 for a circuit breaker pantent. I cant find that page at present again and state the above from my memory.

I have a book from "Küchler" pubished in 1956. The motor starting transformer are explained there but without reference to Korndorfer. But it proofes that the reduced voltage starting is older than 1973.
Refernence is made beside others in said "Küchler" to a book "Farry, O.T. : Autotransformer for power systems. dated 1954" but I dont have that book.

There is a link in the web to the "family Korndorfer worldwide" going back to year 1500.
www.freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~korndorfer
I wrote to those people but I dont have any reply up to now.

It is really strange. Till tody the largest motors in the world are started with Korndorfer transition priciple and we cannot find who he was.

I keep on digging and promiss to keep you informed if I find more news.

May be someone else has more information

Dear Jraef,
I dont have further news up to now.
I am still searching for mister Korndorfer.

Knowing that I missuse this forum I have a question on the sentence
"Venditori de oleum-vipera non vigere excordis populi"

We have tried hard but we cant get it translated.
It seams to be  a mixture of latin and italian.
I am in Germany here
We can translate all words into german but the sentence coming out doesnt make sence.
Please tell me.

RE: Korndorfer reduced voltage motor starting method

It's all latin, but the context may not make sense to someone not familiar with US folk lore. It means "Snake-Oil salesmen cannot thrive without an ignorant populace". Snake-oil salesmen is a derogatory term for people who sell worthless products with lots of hype and flair.

"Venditori de oleum-vipera non vigere excordis populi"

Thanks for the explanation.
During my previous research I asked a friend, who used to be good in latin. He gave up but replied me weather it would bring him in difficulties if he would ask his priest for translation.
Take care and I appreciate your support.
Next time I come back I will have some news on Mr Korndorfer

RE: Korndorfer reduced voltage motor starting method

Do a patent search. Since the U.S. Patent Office has a full set of microfilm files present at most major city libraries you should be able to do this at a place that is within reach.
