HIC & SSC what is the different between them

HIC & SSC what is the different between them

HIC & SSC what is the different between them

(OP)
What is the different if the steel is according to NACE PR0175 or NACE TM0284? What is better if we have sour service?

The pressure code material ordered to code while the pipe order to API. For pressure vessel most of the material is normalized, so do you think that the material for pressure vessel should be tested for HIC or SSC?

RE: HIC & SSC what is the different between them

Most process pipe will be seamless mfg and HIC is very unusual in seamless, so normally only NACE/ISO 15156 (replaced MR0175-2003) will apply.  Vessels and seam welded pipe made from plate steels can suffer from HIC cracking and TM0284 is often specified in addition to NACE/ISO 15156.  There is industry disagreement on the benefits of getting HIC tested plate as some data suggests it may be more prone to SOHIC cracking.  Where TM0284 is pretty standard is seam welded enhanced strength grade linepipe, e.g. API 5L X52 etc.

In sour service it is a requirement, and in some locations is legaly required, to call out NACE MR0175.  Use of HIC testing per TM0284 is at the discretion of the purchaser.
