Part Name -> File Name

Part Name -> File Name

Part Name -> File Name

(OP)
When I create a new Part and save it, V5 automatically tries to save it with the same name as the Part i.e. "Part.23"

If I then change the Part name to something else and SaveAs, V5 still tries to save with the original name - is there anyway to make it take the same filename as the Part name?  My part names are quite long so this would be very handy.

RE: Part Name -> File Name

The thing you have to do first is before you save your part, right click on the tree, properties, and on the product tab, you give it a part number/name. When you save it, it will take the same filename as you put in the part number.

Yes, that works the first time.

I would like to change the name in the tree a second time e.g. to create a new version and ideally, when I use SaveAs, v5 would save with this new name - but it doesn't - it still uses the previous name.

RE: Part Name -> File Name

If you wanted to do a new version of the existing copy. You could open it with New From... and then rename in the tree. Then, when you do a save as, it should take the new name from the tree.

Good Luck.

RE: Part Name -> File Name

You can also do a COPY/PASTE SPECIAL, and BREAK LINK.  That will let you re-name the part and save it as a new document.
