Heating values of slaughterhouse wastes

Heating values of slaughterhouse wastes

Heating values of slaughterhouse wastes

(OP)
I would be grateful for information on (a) heating values, (b) typical water contents and (c) elemental compositions of wastes produced by beef (and hog) killing plants. These include fat, "inedible", "paunch", wastewater sludge... etc. I am looking for options for recovery. Thanks,
Albert Liem

RE: Heating values of slaughterhouse wastes

I have had some experience of recycling these waste types to land in Britain.  If you want to drop me a line (mark.ley@csgwasteman.co.uk), I will try to be of assistance.

As a rough indicator on wet volumes, assume most "hind gut" sludges press out at 15% dry matter.  Most bloods have a dry matter of 5 - 10%.

Elemental compositions will vary according to what went in the front end when the animals were still alive - pigs tend to have high Zinc content, whereas cattle tend to have high Copper.  As for heating values, I don't know.

Mark.
