Formwork Set-Up Reference

Formwork Set-Up Reference

Formwork Set-Up Reference

(OP)
Is there any really good reference out there on proper formwork set-ups for such things as walls, drain walls, etc.  I find our contractors don't know squat about it - we get wavy tops as they are "finishing" down inside the formwork.

RE: Formwork Set-Up Reference

Without thinking, I'll tell you ACI Document SP-4 is a long standing best bet on concrete formwork.

Now as to all the small details and logic, those things are hard to get out of a book, but alot of them are in there.

It's not too expensive as a base level reference. It won't make you a shoring contractor or an economical formwork designer, but it could be a good resource to try to share or at least give you justification when you question the practices.

Good luck,
Daniel Toon

RE: Formwork Set-Up Reference

after pouring the conrete how many days you need to remove the form?

RE: Formwork Set-Up Reference

Depends on the type structure, the concrete mix design, and the temperature. A few hours after placement to a week or so are typical. The most important thing is to protect the concrete from damage and to cure it properly  - on many structures this can be done without the forms.

There are usually no real problem leaving the forms on for very long time spans (weeks or months).
