PLC SIL Definition

AB ControlLogix 1756 is rated for SIL 2, does it mean I will get SIL 2 in any kind of configuation, or I have to be careful select components of controlLogix to make it SIL 2, such as redundant CPU, redundant network? To what level of redundancy I need to make it SIL 2?
Thanks in advance.

RE: PLC SIL Definition
In order to configure a programmable controller to meet a certain SIL, the manufacturer will have a safety manual. This manual will outline what is required to be completed in order to attain the SIL rating as tested.
A quick answer to your question is: no, only in specific configurations will you attain SIL2.
Also, be careful of processor to processor communications. If you are passing shutdown information over a communication network, that network shall be designed to the highest SIL required.
Hope this helps.
