Adding Hyphen to Dimension

Adding Hyphen to Dimension

Adding Hyphen to Dimension

(OP)
I need to place a hyphen within the dimension text,
for example: 1 1/2" would be displayed as 1-1/2". I cannot find how to do this within the dimension parameters. Any thoughts?

RE: Adding Hyphen to Dimension

Hello Kmacsys,
There are several ways to select the style are want.  One way using the NEW command at the command prompt or pressing [Cntrl] + [N], or picking New form the File pull-down menu.  Select use the wizard and select the units appropriate for your drawing.  Hope this helps - John

RE: Adding Hyphen to Dimension

There isn't anyway that I know of other than doing a manual override and typing out what you want.  This isn't really recommended though.
Are you sure you want to put a hyphen in there?  Traditionally it is not written that way.  Also, what happens when you get to dimensions over 12"?
You would have 1'-1-1/2", which doesn't really look right, and is a bit confusing.

RE: Adding Hyphen to Dimension

Kymacsys,

If you are using a fairly recent version of AutoCAD, get your Dimension Style Manager dialog box up.  Pick the MODIFY button, pick the PRIMARY UNITS tab and the third text box down is FRACTION FORMAT.  You can choose Diagonal stacked or Horizontal stacked.  Then your dimensions will look OK without a hyphen.

Hope this helps
