Protection Software
Protection Software
(OP)
Im fairly new to the protection division of the industry and have carried out a fault level anaylsis of a marine system, which ive to then cordinate the protection of the radial feeder.Ive found the Coordonaide program from S&C Company, but I was wondering do any of the more experienced power professionals know of any additional sites that offer similiar programs for free.
Also one of the additional problems is that due to it being a 13.8kV system, and having heavy duty induction machines on the primary bus the fault currents are shown through simulation using EMTP to be in excess of 180kA.Therefore I need to determine maximum ratings for the switchgear, busbar, CT performance, cables etc is there a good source that would provide generic information that would provide a a base case to work on from.
Any additional insight into what areas that are normally looked upon upon undertaken such a design, would be much appreciated from a guy thats kinda been shoved in the deep end with the clock ticking.
Cheers lads and lassies!

RE: Protection Software
I seriously doubt if you have 180kA at 13.8kV. This is over 4000MVA. Most 15kV gear is rated for 500 or 750MVA. What are you using for a source and what size are your induction machines?

Convince your powers to be to invest in what is necessary....
By the way if you know impedances of your equipment, which you will have to know even if using a software, hand calculations gives pretty accrurate results..
Refer to IEEE Buff book for reference..

I think im on the right track, but if anybody could ryhme of names of manufacturers of plant like busbars, CTs where i can get generic data to get ballpark estimates on how the protection will cope within the system.

These are a few of the programs that might help you, some of them have demos you can use for a definite period of time.
