Clear plastic tube

Clear plastic tube

(OP)
I want to know if there is a clear plastic tube that is suitable for exposure to 160degsC.  The ID needs to be 4" but the wall thickness is not important.

It forms part of a test rig but will be backed up with a steel casing with slots so that we can see in.

Would glass be an option - just thinking about it (and looking out of the window!)

Cheers

Phil.

RE: Clear plastic tube

How clear, any load or chemicals in the environment.

Off the top of my head, TPX might take 160, polycarbonate probably won't, Polysulphone will. Amorphous nylons probably will.

I don't expect any except the polycarbonate are available ex stock, but if the requirement was sufficient, they could all be made.

RE: Clear plastic tube

One big supplier of ex stock tubes and profiles made of various engineering and high-temperature plastics is a company called Ensinger. Check them out at www.ensinger-online.com. I'm sure they have what you need.

RE: Clear plastic tube

The temperature is going to be the tough one.  I would suggest tempered glass as the material.
