Field data collection to SAP

Field data collection to SAP

(OP)
Does anyone have experience w/ and recommend vendors for a field data collection system using PDA's.  Invision steps being 1) scan barcode on pump 2) input run hours, flow, pressure into PDA 3) download into system for easy review of trends and excursions...perform preventive maintenance on hours or throughput rather than calendar based.

A big plus would be ability to take field data and download it directly into SAP Plant Maintenance.

RE: Field data collection to SAP

There are barcode accessories for both Palm and PocketPC.  Additionally, there is at least one barcode reader built around a PocketPC.  Since PPC comes with Excel, you can input everything else into Excel and with integrated Bluetooth, transfer the file wirelessly to a PC for manipulation there.

Leading supplier of such systems I am familiar with is SAT Corp in Houston, TX. They work with most of the petrochemical and refining companies along the Gulf Coast.

RE: Field data collection to SAP

BP uses a PRIDE maintenance data system which uses a handheld battery operated device (PRIDE Gun) which collects and stores data by scanning a barcode on each piece of plant equipment. The user then records the readings using the keypad, the info is then taken back to the control room after his route in the plant is completed and downloaded into the PRIDE system on the computer, where the info is stored. The program will graph all or selected equipment readings taken such as pressures, temps, flows, hours, etc. Alarm limits can be set for any piece of equipment data that exceeds normal equipment operation. This alarm limit will be indicated to the user on the PRIDE gun when he enters a value exceeding the normal operating limit. I have used the system myself when I worked for BP, but I do not know of any vendors that supply a simular system.
